WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR A TRACK TO STAND OUT IN 2025, AND WHICH ARTISTS ARE QUIETLY DEFINING THE SOUND OF THE MOMENT?

For this year’s Anomie Wrapped, we pulled together eight tracks that capture something about the current moment in music: a mixture of pop, underground experimentation, and the kind of songwriting that doesn't stay confined to a single genre. Some arrive from established voices returning in peak form, others from artists who feel like they’re only just beginning to find their audience.

One of the sharpest entries comes from Lily Allen with Pussy Palace, a standout cut from a deeply personal album. Allen sounds confident, clear-eyed, and just a little bit jaded in the best way. It reminds listeners why her voice remains one of the most distinctive in British pop.

She appears again on our list with NonMonogamummy, another highlight from West End Girl. This track leans into Allen’s knack for being blunt, witty, and instantly lodged in your head after the first chorus.

Addison Rae’s Headphones On proves that the pop-princess formula is alive and well in our lord and savior's year of 2025. Clean production, dreamy vocals, and a chorus that wouldn’t feel out of place on a classic Britney record give the track a polished, euphoric energy. It’s bright, effortless pop.

In a completely different register, Royel Otis’ Moody is a lot more simple, with clear vocals, uncluttered production, and a stripped-back arrangement. It’s brief, direct, and addictive.

EsDeeKid, Fakemink, and Rico Ace are next with LV Sandals. The track feels like a statement from the on-the-come-up Scouse rapper: fast, aggressive, and brimming with attitude. Fakemink’s feature went viral on TikTok and is catchy and clean.

Political bite comes courtesy of Kneecap and Mozey with The Recap, a no-nonsense banger that takes aim at a certain outspoken British MP. Like much of Kneecap’s work, it’s bold and confrontational, with a mix of satire and pure catchiness.

Ireland appears again on the list through Bricknasty and F3miii with I Hope You’re Ready. The track captures exactly why Bricknasty is becoming one of the country’s most talked-about live acts: with woozy neo-soul and R&B textures. Fab track.

Finally, a surprising treat arrives from Pulp with Spike Island. A new Pulp track in 2025 might have once sounded unlikely, but it's unmistakably them: witty, melodic, and charismatic. It’s the kind of song that reminds you how enduring great songwriting can be.

Taken together, these tracks sketch out a year that feels both fragmented and exciting. Pop continues to evolve, underground scenes are pushing boundaries, and veteran artists are proving they still have plenty left to say.
